Dr. Stephanie Best

Stephanie H. Best, Ph.D., HSP-P, is a Licensed Psychologist and certified Health Services Provider who received her bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Duke University. She subsequently trained as an intern at Dorothea Dix Hospital in Raleigh and a post-doctoral fellow at the Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center, before branching off into private practice, crisis evaluation, and clinical training.

 

Dr. Best holds an appointment as an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. She provides immediate attention for individuals needing assistance for a crisis related to mental illness, developmental disability, and/or substance abuse at the UNC WakeBrook Crisis and Assessment Service. 

 

As the founder of BeWellNC Inc., she offers compassionate, holistic, evidence-based therapy in a healing environment, backed by exceptional training and personal experience. Her areas of expertise include mindfulness- and acceptance-based interventions for adolescents, adults, couples, and families struggling with a wide variety of difficulties. A skilled practitioner of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and NeuroMeditation, Dr. Best uses a collaborative, client-centered approach that empowers consumers to cope with distressing thoughts and feelings, develop greater clarity about personal values, and commit to needed behavior change. In her newest endeavor, she is passionate about training clinicians around the country in the use of mindfulness-based interventions to rewire the brain. 

 

Outside of the office, Dr. Best enjoys spending quality time with her family, friends, and animals on her farm in Angier, North Carolina.
